Unless you’re a chronic insomniac or a video game-obsessed teen, the piece of furniture you spend most of your time in is your bed. Granted, most of us are in some varying state of unconsciousness during a good portion of this time. But nonetheless our bed is where we can be found anywhere from five to ten hours of any given day (probably snoring, drooling, or both). For many of us, however, our bed and, in turn, our bedroom furniture, rank fairly low on our list of decorating priorities. Why is this? For most of us, the appearance of the rooms where we do our entertaining (dining room, living room) is more important than a room few others besides ourselves see. While this is understandable, it is also a bit regrettable.

If your bedroom decor warranted you spending more time in it with your eyes open, don’t you think you probably would? Relaxing with a good book in the afternoon, watching a little TV before bed, or even doing a little internet surfing on your laptop, all of these leisurely activities are more enjoyable in a room that’s aesthetically pleasing and more conducive to such activities. So how can you transform your bedroom from a drab and lifeless cell into a place of relaxation and tranquility? It’s actually fairly easy and won’t cause you to dip into the kids’ college fund (again).

Sitting up in bed always seems like a better idea than it actually is. Getting comfortable can be a near impossibility and a sure invitation for some lower back pain. The solution is the Sensay Platform Bed. This sleek, modern bed features two separate ergonomic back rests that are gently curved and adjustable up and down, to suit most individual’s support needs. The Sensay lets you enjoy a book or watch some television from the comfort of your bed while providing the support and comfort your body needs.

The rest of the Sensay Bedroom Set complements the platform bed perfectly. Every piece features the same understated, contemporary look with sharp geometric lines and a simple, Asian-inspired aesthetic.

Japanese Home Decor - Balanced and Graceful

Posted:31 March, 2008 by admin

Japanese home decor is a little bit more than plain decorating a living space. It is about achieving a feeling of balance in the universe. This process is known as Zen, which is essential in true Japanese home decor. With minimalism in furnishing the Japanese home decor embraces space, and uses it as a way of balancing the Yin and Yang.

Less is always more when it comes to Japanese home decor. The same principle goes to color or lack thereof – Japanese interiors are usually a blend of neutral and natural colors, which will provide a simple background. Black is considered a necessary element in the color palette, but it is used more for defining form and aligning structures more than for actual color. Since black doesn’t clash with anything, the Japanese culture uses it as part of bringing a harmonious feel to a room. Vivid colors are used, but generally only in a single form. If you select a red piece of art, do not mix it on the same wall with another vivid color. A colorful piece is meant to stand out as a focal point of the room. If you use the same color in other parts of the room, the original piece will lose its potency.

Instead of mixing different colors together, you can select contrasting finishes and textures for various items – this is how you can achieve an integral part of balancing. Japanese home decor has many textures such as long grained cedar wood, rice paper, lacquer, bamboo, wicker, and beautiful fabrics of different silks.

To add objects with an Eastern influence to your Japanese home decor, you can try a few of the classic and beautiful bits and pieces. A finely made kimono can add art to a room without any effort at all, because a Japanese kimono is considered to be the canvas of the Japanese artist. Wedding kimonos and fans are considered extremely valuable and decorative. Even hanging a kimono on a clothing stand or decorative bar can make a statement in any room with Japanese home decor.

A wide sash worn with a kimono is called an obi – it can make an excellent table runner or be framed as a piece of art. If you are looking for something a bit more unique, you can group a collection of obis behind your bed to make a fabulous headboard. A Keyaki is a gorgeous antique door that can be used as a desk top, or coffee table top. Lastly, a sake keg can double as a plant holder. Depending on the size, you could also use it as a vase, end table, or lamp base.

If you want your home to look unique and exotic, choose Japanese home decor style. Your imagination and widespread eastern influence can help you create a room that is both beautiful and well-balanced.

Solar power is becoming popular as people become aware of individual responsibility for protecting the environment and the increased costs of traditional energy sources. Although there is much debate about the extent to which humans are responsible for climate change it shouldn’t stop people from making an effort to use more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy sources. One thing that is sure is that fossil fuels are a finite resource. Sooner or later they will run out and alternatives will have to be found. Solar energy is one such resource that will not run out. This article will discuss solar water heaters and how the can save you money a help you do your bit for the environment at the same time.

The basic principle of a solar hot water heater is that the water passes through a solar collector or solar panels that heat the water. The solar collectors or panels are in direct contact with the sun and this energy is used to heat the water. The water then passes to an insulated storage tank that conserves the heated water for later usage.

There are two variations on this principle : active and passive systems. The active system uses a pump to move the water from the collectors or panels to the storage tank. The passive system has no power source to move the water but moves the water through gravity. Depending on the heat of the water in the storage tank a standard, electricity powered heater can be used as a failsafe or in case there is a heavy usage of water. In theory however, solar hot water can supply up to 90% or the households heating requirements if the climate is right.

The biggest drawback of solar hot water systems is the initial cost of installing the system. There is the cost of the solar equipment and then any changes to the original hot water piping throughout the house. Again this will change with time as solar energy becomes popular. Indeed in California more new houses are fitted out with solar panels as standard than ever before. This will only increase as we go forward.

Most of the equipment needed to create solar hot water heating will last for up to 25 years. Indeed if the collectors and panels are of good quality and looked after they should outlast the storage tank. During this time the house owner should have made back the initial investment on savings in electricity bills. Another note on the initial outlay of installing a solar powered system is that many governments offer rebates or grants to people that install this kind of energy resource. This can make the choice more attractive.

Solar power can be applied to many house and garden products. In recent years the cost of these appliances have become very affordable and helped to save money on monthly energy bills. The Versatility of a Window Valance

Posted:30 March, 2008 by admin

If you’re a person who loves to keep the window open so that you have the opportunity to gaze about as you wish, then you certainly don’t want to obstruct that view. For this person, a window valance is a perfect choice. You have a wide array of styles to choose from when finding that perfect valance. If you wish to have the view always, night and day, without interruption, you can use the valance alone, or else couple it with other window dressings such as curtains, drapes, blinds, shutters.

You can choose from both casual and formal window valances when conducting your interior design project. You can use a heavy tapestry type fabric or an airy light cotton type of material. If you like the free flowing look that’s less informal you can go that route, or else one that is more stiff and shaped to a form fit.

The balloon valance looks like…well, a balloon. The way it is hung on the rod and pinched into sections make each section balloon out because of the way it is bundle up. The top is usually ruffled a bit. The areas of the valance that are puffy are usually stuffed with a tissue or old crumpled newspaper for some thicker fabrics where it won’t show through. For this style it’s recommended to use a lighter weight cotton material as well as something solid or with patterns and stripes.

Another type of valance is the swag valance. The Swag Valance often is used with a lightweight fabric, but sometimes can work with a heavier type of fabric. This type of valance can either be short extend to the floor and pooled into a little pile. The swag is hoisted up by decorative brackets on either side, as the fabric is folded accordion style width ways, and then draped back across the brackets. If your window is wider you may have to support the center with a discreet bracket or pin because of the weight creating a swoop.

You may like the look of the pleated valance. This is usually made up of a heavier type of fabric that will hold it’s shaped when formed. The fabric must be cut carefully so that each section between the pleated folds is equal in size. You may not want to tackle this type of style on your own, as you may want to leave this one up to a professional interior decorator or seamstress with experience. This type of valance is hung using a frame make from two by four board as well as an L bracket to create a type of shelf at the top of the window. You’ll then staple the fabric the shaped board, and then hang the board onto the brackets.

No matter what your experience level, just about anyone can create a window valance. Be sure to remember that window treatments should not be the focal point of the room but simply there to accent.

Kenneth Morris repeatedly pens detailed papers on ideas corresponding to interior design. You can have a look at his abstracts on curtains-drapes-coverings.com/window-valance.html window valance and curtains at curtains-drapes-coverings.com curtains-drapes-coverings.com

Cool during the summer and hot during the winter—it’s an amazing contradiction to nature’s laws. You are wrong if you think the phenomenon refers to the weather. It’s your travel comfort we are talking about. Wouldn’t you just love to be warm and snug inside your car during the winter and refreshingly cool while braving the summer heat? That’s why more and more automobile owners are preferring sheepskin seat covers to nylon, cotton, or polyester.

Sheepskin has many amazing qualities that make your drive enjoyable any season. The automatic temperature regulation of the springy wool fabric gives a warm feel on cold days and the air circulation through the porous fabric absorbs sweat and keeps you cool on hot days. And, the covers are extremely comfortable with their soft, dense fibers that balance your weight over a large area while traveling. The treated-leather lining of the sheepskin seat covers are water resistant, but the chrome-tanned sheepskin makes them washable, too. Due to the natural lanolin in their fibers, sheepskin leathers are resistant to dirt and bacteria. However, they can be washed with soaps that contain natural sheep oil, making the covers last for years. Sheepskin covers are best for your skin as they stabilize blood circulation and heal rashes and inflammations on the skin.

US Sheepskin, Inc. provides tailor-made, ready-made and ready-made super-fit sheepskin seat covers. Their tailor-made covers are designed for the specific model, year, and make of a vehicle, while their Australian merino super-fit sheepskins are custom made for bucket seats of almost all vehicles.

They also have custom and semi-custom sheepskin covers for more common seat styles made of fine quality sheepskin imported from Australia and New Zealand.
